Greetings comrades,

Do you love adventure? Do you believe in true love? Are you diverse, a halfway decent singer (and/or lip-syncer), and preferably above 6 feet tall (we're trying to replace Rishub)?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, then you should audition for The Pikers, WashU's oldest a cappella group, on February 21st! We'll be holding a special, one day audition, and welcome any and all WashU (and Fontbonne) to try out.

If you're interested, please sing up on our Auditions Page, and if you're curious, feel free to email auditions.thepikers@gmail.com with any questions or bribes.

Green Eggs and Jam 2013
By The Pikers on November 21, 2013 at 4:32 pm

Green Eggs and Jam, the Greenleafs annual concert, is this Friday and Saturday (11/22 and 11/23) in May Auditorium!

Here's what the Pikers are thinking about the show: concert. singing. excited. eggs. food. green. girls. boobs. yay.

The Pikers will be singing a combined song both nights, and opening on Saturday...be there or be triangular.

Tunes for Tay
By The Pikers on November 13, 2013 at 3:04 pm

On Sunday November 17th, the Pikers are performing at Tunes 4 Tay, an a cappella concert that raises awareness and funding for pediatric cancer research. Along with the Pikers, almost all WashU A Cappella groups are performing, and you get to see the whole show for only $5, all of which goes to tay-bandz, a 501 (C) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and funding research for pediatric cancer.

Tay-bandz was founded by Taylor Matthews who, at age 11, was diagnosed with cancer. Her dearest hope was that "someday no child would ever have to face cancer." Taylor always believed that individuals could make a difference through private efforts, and she LOVED music. With both of Taylor's passions in mind, tay-bandz has launched Tunes 4 Tay, an a cappella fundraiser.

To buy tickets, please visit: http://wedid.it/campaigns/730. 5 dollars is the required donation to attend, but feel free to donate more if you would like to, even if you're not coming.

Pediatric cancer research is extremely underfunded, and we need your help! Hope to see you there.

Highlights included performing with the Greenleafs, a Piker football game, and anything without the new guys.

Summer 2013
By The Pikers on June 3, 2013 at 1:33 pm

Have you been missing your weekly dose of Pikers ever since school let out? Yeah, we haven't either.

Regardless, you can still listen to us by clicking on the Youtube link to the left or the Media tab at the top of the page. It's just like hearing the Pikers in person, except without the terrible body odor! (we swear, we're working on it). You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter (again, to the left) to stay completely up to date on Pikers news.

If you're in the incoming class of 2017: first of all, congratulations! Getting to WashU takes a lot of work and effort, and you made it. Secondly, consider wasting all that work and effort by joining the Pikers! Kidding (sort of), but if you enjoy singing and, more importantly, having fun, consider trying out for the Pikers. We'll post more information as August approaches, but for now explore the website and learn a little bit about who we are (hint: a really obnoxious group of guys who like to sing). If you have any questions, feel free to email us.

Enjoy your summer everybody, and see you in August!

Update (6/5/13): This is generally what we're looking for in an audition: http://youtu.be/O7D-1RG-VRk.

Auditions: Getting Ready
By Staples on June 4, 2012 at 11:27 pm

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE INCOMING CLASS OF 2016! Seriously, give yourselves a pat on the back. You did it. Now back to business.

The fact that you've found your way to our website and are currently reading this post suggests two things. First, it means you're at least somewhat interested in singing a cappella in college. Second, it means you can read. But let's focus on that first one. If you are in fact interested in singing a cappella in college, you might be wondering what it takes to become a Piker. Here's the quick and dirty:

Before your audition, we'll send you a questionnaire to fill out that will let us get to know you a little bit. You should complete this and bring it with you to your audition. The audition itself will last about 15 minutes. We know auditions can be scary, so we'll do our best to make you feel comfortable. The auditions will start with a warmup so we can hear your range. Then we'll test your tonal memory (our music director will play a few notes on the piano and you'll sing them back to us). After that, you'll sing a solo you've prepared. Your solo should be roughly 16-32 bars long (or about 30-45 seconds). As for what you sing for your solo: it absolutely does not matter. Sing something you love. Sing something that you think shows off your voice. Seriously. The genre really doesn't matter. Finally, we'll sit you down and administer the extremely scientific and not at all silly Pikers Audition Exam. In reality, this just means we'll chat for a bit. The Pikers spend a lot of time together, so before we make any decisions we want to make sure that we get to know you not just as a singer but as a dude, or at least get to know you as well as we can in 15 minutes. About a week after your audition, we'll post a list of people who have been called back for a second audition. If you make the callback list, next to your name on the list will be your callback time. We coordinate with the other groups to make sure that no one gets scheduled for two callbacks at the same time.

The callback lasts 30 minutes. We'll begin the callback by warming up your voice. Then you'll sing a second solo; try to sing something a little different from your first one. Next, we'll teach you a part to one of our songs so that we can see how well you learn music and how well your voice blends with the group. Finally, we'll administer the Pikers BATIII Neuropsychological Evaluation which, much like the audition exam, is just a conversation. About a week after your callback, you'll find out whether you're in the group. You can sign up for an audition slot starting in August.

If you have any questions, feel free to email us at thepikers@gmail.com

Auditions: Fresh Meat!
By The Pikers on April 29, 2012 at 2:56 pm

Attention Incoming Freshman: Our favorite time of the year is soon approaching, and we have begun feeding the graduating seniors to Rekip, our magical octopus. Rekip is an essential part of our audition and selection process, as without him we would be completely lost as to which of the many talented freshmen we should choose to join our crusade in the name of the holy Miley Cyrus. If harpooning, spelunking, and underwater caroling sound like your kind of activities, and if you are particularly adept at managing eight suction cups whilst simultaneously harmonizing with other singing males, then we hope you will test Rekip's selections skillz and audition for the Pikers this upcoming Fall. More info to follow (when Rekip tells us it's time).

Auditions 2011!
By The Pikers on August 17, 2011 at 10:24 pm

A Cappella auditions are fast approaching, and The Pikers, although usually an asocial and disagreeable bunch, are opening their arms and hearts to welcome potential new members. Auditions will be held Friday (9/2), Saturday (9/3), and Sunday (9/4). If you'd like to come check us out, The Pikers will be performing at SUp All Night, August 27 9:00 pm at The DUC, and at the A Cappella info session Monday August 29 at 9:00 pm, at a location to be determined. A fair warning to you would be Pikers out there; auditions are a grueling process involving laborious feats of strength and a rigorous clown training seminar. But generous and interesting bribes are encouraged and will almost certainly make auditions a lot easier. We are also looking for members for our up and coming acrobatics and aquatics divisions. So, feel free to browse our website, visit our facebook page, and watch our youtube videos, and don't hesitate to contact us with any questions!

JAMMIN' TOAST 2011!
By The Pikers on January 21, 2011 at 9:11 am

Come one, come all, to the greatest show on Earth. Tonight and tomorrow, the Washington University Pikers present JAMMIN' TOAST 2011, an exploration into a cappella music which also commemorates 25 years of exquisite tone and blissful harmonies on campus. Shows are Friday January 21 and Saturday January 22 at 7:30 PM in Graham Chapel on the Washington University Campus. We'll be singing with WashU's own Greenleafs and Mosaic Whispers and will also have performances by Northwestern University's Significant Others, so the question isn't whether or not you're coming--it's what seat you'll get when once inside Graham Chapel. Tickets are available at the door for $5 with a WashU ID or $7 for the general public.

Merry Christmahannakwanzaka!
By The Pikers on December 24, 2010 at 1:11 pm

May they change the face of dance for years to come and grace you all with their presence. Thank you to everybody who auditioned this year. We really appreciate you singing for us and hope to see you at our concerts or auditioning again in the future.

Yes, the time has come. The Pikers will be holding auditions this Saturday (9/4) and Sunday (9/5) and you can sign up for an audition slot by clicking the rather blunt link over on the left. Check out the rest of our website to see what music we sing and how we sing it. You can also get to know the guys in the group and figure out what a Piker actually is if you wanna get serious. Any questions? Don't hesitate to contact us.

Hunting Season
By The Pikers on July 20, 2010 at 9:31 pm

There's still plenty of time left to enjoy this summer, but in case your landscaping job's got you down, you'll be happy to know that fresh meat comes to campus in five weeks and we're getting ready to greet them. We've got a new layout theme going and will be pumping more information into this site and our Facebook page, including a rundown of our audition process, in the coming weeks. Check back soon for more details. Think you might forget how to get here? Now would be a great time to see how long you can go without deleting your browser's history. Good luck!
